More Tibicen auriferus from Kansas

Well Gerry, this is probably the last cicada sighting I will post to wrap up my study for cicadas for this season. The only guys left are the occasional T. pronotalis and the remaining T. auriferus like this female. As summer turns into fall, I will be switching to studying grasshoppers and mantids. Hope to see you again for next season. I will keep you updated on your Facebook page of any cool stuff!

Cicada Killer Wasp in Nashua, NH

Back around 8-12-2011, while hummingbird watching in my backyard, I thought I saw a small hummingbird land in the grass. When I went to see what it was, it turned out to be this rather large wasp I'd never seen before...since Aug, I've seen it almost daily, coming n going from it "den"...which has now turned into 2 dens...
Please let me know if you'd like more pics etc...got some from nightime, when "she" was excavating her new (2nd)den just the other day (9-5-2011)

Cicada Sighting in Scarborough, ME

My son found the cicada on our driveway this morning. We picked it up to observe it and it made a loud clicking sound. Hurricane Irene is just leaving the area, not sure if the winds blew it into the area!

Tibicen auriferus in Topeka, KS

This is a Tibicen auriferus I found at my school. The first picture is one with the auriferus male in the middle and a female pruinosus at the top. I discovered him as a late teneral for he did not have any pruinosity developed yet. Pretty much the only reason I knew it was an auriferus was because it was found near an open field and the fact that it was smaller than the average pruinosus.

Tibicen tibicen found in Lake St. Louis, MO

While I was wandering around behind the local Walmart searching for the ever elusive T. auletes, I came across what I suspect to be a female T. tibicen cicada which I though was interesting.
Notice anything unusual for a T. tibicen(?)? The pronotal collar is mostly olive green!
Very unusual indeed as the local T. tibicen cicadas around here have black pronotal collars. Sometimes, you will see them with just a little splash of green on the sides of the pronotal collar, but this is the first one I've seen with a mostly green collar. Also, her McDonald's "golden arches" are substantially more well defined than the usual local T. tibicen and is more like what one would find on a T. lyricen around these parts.
Anyway, I just thought you might like to take a look at it; and, I'd be interested to hear your take on it.
        Dimensions:
Head to wingtips (folded) = 4.8 cm
        Body length = 3.24 cm
Eye to eye (outside measurement) = 14.26 mm

        Cheers
P.S. - I have a ventral view if you want it, but I'm limited to uploading only 3 pics and figured I would go for the "money shots" (plus, I'm kind of showing off the new macro lens I just finished making for my camera). Anyway, she (the cicada)lacks a ventral stripe and her legs are a light greenish color.
