Hi Scott,

I would imagine that thanks to Hurricane Irene today that a lot of cicadas are holding on for dear life in the wind today. I have studied your photo and based on the morphology of the ventral surface and its length, which has been calculated by counting the number of squares on the screen I am pretty sure that this is a Tibicen canicularis cicada. Also I can just make out the large round plates at the base of the abdomen known as "opercula" which would make this specimen a male. Thanks for sharing your photo.
